Reading Glasses As A Milestone Marker

Being 40 means for most American men starting the second half of their lives, but for me, it meant beginning a new type of life. As I have grown older, I have realized that it is time to start having fun and taking care of me.

I pledged by the time I needed reading glasses to read the morning paper that I would stop putting the job before everything, and I achieved that goal. Although the job is still very important to me, I have found time to relax at night and to exercise. The last part was very important because three years ago, I was pre-diabetic along with too high cholesterol and blood pressure.

Now I am not any of those conditions. More importantly , I found at age 40 a wife who will see me into the next stage of life. A wife who has been as much fun as letting go of the pressures of work. We will start traveling soon, and then the real fun will begin. This new stage is one of excitement and adventure, very similar to the one when I was 8: when I was allowed to explore. I know we will explore the world in a few months, and that will be another year-40 goal achieved.
